As a professional translator with the
relevant degrees for over three decades now, and having toured the
World extensively, the experiences gained in translation and localization
methodology in use throughout the World are being offered to my
clients. The best pieces from all corners of the World were combined
them into a unique value proposition for clients.
I am specializing in the translation
of documentation created in Tex/LaTex and Author-It.
Having studied martial arts extensively for over 4 decades now, I have
accumulated a very large amount of documentation and historical photos. To
preserve all this for the future, a number of years ago, the process
to slowly convert all material available into electronic format was started
and is not yet completed.
At the same time, I have also a large collection of linguistic papers,
articles and other materials published over the last few decades. The goal was
to keep all this different documentation within a central repository, but at the
same time re-use as much as possible.
Finally, since I am a volunteer of the Citizen Corps Emergency Response Team
and maintain the website under www.wdvolunteer.com, I am consistently
creating a number of documents and presentations for training purposes. After an
exhaustive search on the availability of products meeting
these requirements, Author-it was implemented a few years back
and it serves these purposes very well.
The reasons for selecting Author-it are as follows:
- There is one standard repository for all technical texts and
images, which are published as papers for general availability.
- Since I am providing technical and historical information on demand to
other researchers, the aforementioned eliminates searching through a
stack of papers to find something.
- Putting martial arts techniques together according to skill level for the
students requires separate publications which is a snap with Author-it.
- I can publish nice little subsets, meaning sections specifically geared
towards certain aspects for training, discussion or publication in
magazines.
One of the great misconceptions consists in the fact that it is often assumed
LaTeX is only used in academic circles for research reports, thesis’s, and the
likes. However, with LaTeX everything is possible and it really allows focusing
on the content and the formatting is assured. Since 72arts.com also
publishes historical martial arts books in English and in German,
LaTeX is the perfect solution. A number of these books have several hundred
pages and are very graphics-intensive, and Word has its limitations, when
publishing with Author-It.
The philosophy for the use of LaTeX is simple:
Let LateX do the formatting - We focus on content
and translation!
